Travel directions

Please contact us to arrange your visit if you would like to come to our site by car, (you will already have done this as part of the booking process if you are coming camping).  We prefer people to come by foot/bike for environmental and logistical reasons.

By foot/bike/public transport

Frome is served by trains from Bath Spa, Bristol and Weymouth and by the D2 bus service from Bath.  The train station is about 2 miles away and the bus stop is a short walk from our site, so if you are coming by train it may be easiest to get off the train at Bath Spa, walk a minute or two down the road to the bus station, and catch the bus to Frome.  The closest bus stop to our site is at the top of Broadway, just before the bus turns left onto Oakfield Road.  You can walk/cycle to the site using the directions below, a GPS, map and compass, or else an uncanny sense of direction…

From the D2 bus stop at the top of Broadway: Cross the road and walk down Egford Lane, which branches off Broadway to the right. You’ll pass a playing field on your right. Just past the last house and just before the road steepens downhill there’s a gap in the hedge that leads into a wide open field. Turn right through the gap and follow the footpath along the top of this field (watch out for the dog poo!). You will have housing on your right and open fields and a lovely view on your left. When you reach a T-junction on the footpath turn left (walking away from town) and follow the footpath downhill to a kissing gate into the next field. You’ll see a mature horse chestnut tree and lots of youngish trees in this field – welcome to Vallis Veg!

Just after going through the kissing gate into the Vallis Veg field, take the small path through the trees to your right and follow it past some allotments on your left and then a polytunnel on the right. You’ll go down a grassy slope to a small car parking area with a campsite information sign. The farmhouse is on the other side of the market garden. The walk from the bus stop is about 15 minutes.

Walking from the station

If you’re coming from the train station, exit Station Approach and turn left on the main road, past the Service Station. Shortly after the service station you reach traffic lights and a pedestrian crossing. Cross the road here and continue in the same direction on the raised pavement (this is Christchurch Street East). Continue walking along this road to a mini roundabout by the Garston Veterinary Practice. Take the left-most exit of the mini roundabout (ie. keep going straight, essentially). You’ll pass a tyre and exhaust shop and then St Johns School until you reach another mini roundabout by a Pub. Go straight across the road here (tricky to cross!), and then keep going, (you’re now on Christchurch Street West). Keep walking. You will go past the Memorial Theatre and shortly after you’ll come to a row of shops, this is Badcox.

In Badcox, stay on the same side of the road as the shops and keep on into a short residential road that leads to Vallis Way.  Bear right onto Vallis Way (feels a bit like keeping going straight on) and follow it (you’ll have to cross onto the left side of the road at some point) until you reach a mini roundabout with a gate leading into a field.  Go through the gate and follow the footpath away from town until you reach a kissing gate.  You’ll see a mature horse chestnut tree and lots of young trees in this field – welcome to Vallis Veg!

The walk from the station is around 35-45 minutes.

Walking from the centre of town

From in front of The George Hotel in the centre of town, walk up cobbled Stony Street. at the top, turn right onto Catherine Hill and keep on going up until you reach the row of shops in Badcox. Then follow the directions from the station from that point. The walk from the town centre is around 30 minutes.

By road

Important:  please note that we are Vallis Veg, not Vallis Farm.

From Frome: Follow the A362 West through Frome, past a graveyard on the left and then a row of shops on the right. Then take the first exit at the mini roundabout onto Broadway. Continue over the crest of the hill and down the hill out of town. Take the first right onto Elm Lane.

After 200m the road turns sharply left, but you need to go straight on over the old cattle grid (past the Vallis Farm sign but please don’t go to Vallis Farm) and start going up the private road.

You will pass a small car parking area on your right, but keep going up the short, steep hill.  Look out for our Vallis Veg sign and a ‘camping’ sign pointing up our track.  Turn right up our track before you get to the cottages at the top of the hill.  Please don’t go past the cottages, the neighbours don’t like people to go beyond our gate.

Do call if you have any trouble finding us.
